Thoughts and notes, Thanksgiving weekend 2014

I’m taking a few weeks defocused from work, as a kind of grandpaternity leave. That said, the venue for my Dances of Infant Calming is a small-but-nice apartment in San Francisco, so a certain amount of thinking about tech industries is inevitable. I even found time last Tuesday to meet or speak with my clients at WibiData, MemSQL, Cloudera, Citus Data, and MongoDB. And thus:

1. I’ve been sloppy in my terminology around “geo-distribution”, in (more...)

How Linux Works, 2nd Edition What Every Superuser Should Know by Brian Ward; No Starch Press

Everyone knows about Linux. It's a popular operating system that is the software on a computer that enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions.
You can read more on link what I pointed to it. For me, Linux is a great operating system that I can use it as Desktop and Server. I have used it over ten years. It's very interesting operation system. I have (more...)

Active directory configuration in OBIEE 11.1.1.7

We will learn about configuring Active Directory (AD) for OBIEE 11.1.1.7 today.

We will create a new security realm and configure the default authenticator as well as the AD authenticator. Configuring 2 authentication providers will ensure that users such as weblogic continue to function (since they will be authenticated by the default authenticator) and users from the AD are also able to login (authenticated by the AD authentication provider). We will mark (more...)

Creating a RAC Flex Cluster using ansible-oracle

As of version 1.3 it is possible to create a RAC Flex Cluster using ansible-oracle. From a ansible-oracle configuration perspective there is not a huge difference from a normal ‘standard’ cluster, basically a few new parameters. There are other differences though, specifically in how you have to run the playbook and deal with the inventory configuration. In […]

PL/SQL Webservice deployment with Apache Ant on Weblogic

I created a PL/SQL Webservice using Oracle JDeveloper. I want to use the same generated source tree for development and testing.

Deploy/Undeploy/Redeploy
To deploy the webservice to the weblogic applications server I found some Ant deployment examples.

<target name="deploy">
<wldeploy action="deploy" adminurl="t3://${wls.hostname}:${wls.port}" failonerror="false" name="${deploy.name}" password="${wls.password}" source="${deploy.folder}/${deploy.name}${buildnr}.war" targets="${deploy.target}" user="${wls.username}" verbose="true"/>
</target>
<target name="redeploy">
<wldeploy action="redeploy" adminurl="t3://${wls.hostname}:${wls. (more...)

Big Data… Is Hadoop the good way to start?

In the past 2 years, I have met many developers, architects that are working on “big data” projects. This sounds amazing, but quite often the truth is not that amazing. TL;TR You believe that you have a big data project? Do not start with the installation of an Hadoop Cluster -- the "how" Start to talk to business people to understand their problem -- the "why" Understand the data you must

Fabric8 Gateway for the Unified Push Server

If you want to run the Unified Push Server behind a firewall, you still need to expose those RESTful endpoints that are accessed from the mobile apps running on the different devices:

With the help of the Fabric8 Gateway Servlet this is a fairly simple task!

I have created such a gateway that only exposes the above URLs, nothing else. Checkout therepository on github!

Have fun!

Top 5 wait events from v$active_session_history

This query returns the top 5 wait events for the last hour from v$active_session_history view. Be careful, this view is part of the diagnostic pack, you should not query this view if you don’t have license for it. Top 5 wait events from v$active_session_history [crayon-5473514c88282132866302/] This is obviously an approximation, because v$active_session_history contains only 1 second samples, […]

It's been a very long time not coming here, about 2 years and half ... and I missed it big time.

Now I moved to Oracle Systems (formerly Sun Microsystems) on a role support-programmer mixed, within RPE (Revenue Product Engineering) on the Extra Care team, with focus on Solaris, Engineered Systems with Solaris, ZFS Storage Appliance and Ops Center. I'm very happy since my job is closer to development, something was (more...)
