Rumors about Oracle Reports 12c

For nearly six weeks, it is rumored that Oracle Reports will not appear in the version 12c.

Since then, I tried to get information on this topic. After a few emails I got the info I needed.

The rumors are definitely wrong and no one at Oracle wants to cancel Reports 12c.

I hope that this cools down the rumor mill a little bit.

A command-line alternative to PeopleSoft SendMaster

If you are familiar with PeopleSoft Integration Broker, I'm sure you have dealt with SendMaster to some degree. This is a very simple but yet useful tool to perform unit tests of the Integration Broker incoming service operations using plain XML (if I'm dealing with SOAP Web Services, I normally use SoapUI, for which there is a very good article on PeopleSoft Wiki).

Most of the time it's enough with SendMaster, but today I (more...)

Slides from my presentation at APEX World 2015 in Rotterdam

Hi guys,

Generating Diceware Passwords in Python

Today I’m going back to a theme from a post last year and looking at generating passwords with my favourite programming language. A tweet from Simon Brunning pointed me to Micah Lee’s article at The Intercept and my first thought was to write a function to do this in Python. So here it is;

def generate_diceware_password(word_count=6):
    import random
    word_dict = {}
    passphrase = []
    with open('diceware.wordlist.andy.txt') as f:
        for line in f. (more...)

OBIEE 11g query tracking mechanism

Seriously proud of this and it doesn’t make me grumpy!

Push Notifications and the Internet of Things

Today on Facebook’s F8 conference they announced Parse for IoT. This a cool, but not unexpected move, especially since there is demand to have connected objects being part of an (enterprise) cloud systems. We will see more of that happening soon, and our lesson learned on traditional mobile, will be applied to IoT devices or “connected objects” in general.

AeroGear and IoT

In the AeroGear project we have done similar experiments, bringing functionality of our (more...)

Migrating To Oracle Using Custom Object Names

Sybase , SQL  Server and other databases allow for long identifier names.
Oracle allows for a maximum of 30 Bytes when naming objects like  users, tables, ...
When it comes to migrating objects to Oracle,  SQL Developer will truncate the object names and resolve clashes with unique names.

Say for example you have two tables called

  • Application_Name_SubArea_Name_SpecificAreaName_Table_Table1
  • Application_Name_SubArea_Name_SpecificAreaName_Table_Table2

Oracle SQL Developer will convert these to

  • Application_Name_SubArea_Name_S
  • Application_Name_SubArea_Name_1
This default new name may not be to your (more...)

Manually applying Global Payroll Rules Packages downloaded from an Update Image

Last week we've faced an issue while applying a Tax Update in one of our PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 customers. The Tax Update was delivered as a PeopleSoft Release Patchset, that needs to be first applied to the Update Image before creating the Change Package using PeopleSoft Update Manager.

Unfortunately, during the process, one rules package delivered in the Tax Update was not included within the Change Assistant steps, and therefore it was missed. Some (more...)
