Apache Phoenix, SQL is getting closer to Big Data

Here is a post about another project in the Big Data world, like Apache Hive from my previous post, enables you to do SQL on Big Data. It is called Apache Phoenix.

Phoenix is a bit different, a bit closer to my heart too, as I read the documentation on Apache Phoenix, the word 'algebra' and 'relational algebra' came across few times, and that mean only one thing, SQL! The use of (more...)

ODTUG KScope15: One week in a nutshell

Last week I visited ODTUG KScope15 in Hollywood Florida. In this post I will share my findings and hope that you can benefit from it. My general impression of the conference is that it was to hot for me in Florida. At least to hot for a conference. If you can sit on the beach whole day long, it is a great place to be, but hey, I had to work.... From a content perspective, (more...)

Hive (HiveQL) SQL for Hadoop Big Data

In this  post I will share my experience with an Apache Hadoop component called Hive which enables you to do SQL on an Apache Hadoop Big Data cluster.

Being a great fun of SQL and relational databases, this was my opportunity to set up a mechanism where I could transfer some (a lot)  data from a relational database into Hadoop and query it with SQL. Not a very difficult thing to do these days, actually (more...)

Groovy Time! How to use XML dateTime and duration in BPM 12c

In this article I show some examples of handling XML dateTime and durations in Groovy in the context of a Oracle BPM 12c application.

Working with dates and durations in Java has always been painful. Mainly because date and time is a complex thing, with different formats and time zones and all, but I sometimes wonder if it has not been made overly complex. Anyway. Working with XML dates is even more complex because the (more...)

Improving Customer Service – The DBA Team Quality Survey

One of the key measurements DBAs can use to evaluate their team’s performance is analyzing customer feedback.  At RDX, we have established a customer feedback engine that consists of multiple communication contact points and delivery mechanisms to ensure that we receive a constant flow of service quality information.  We elicit feedback from all personnel that we support including customer management, DBAs, developers and end-users.

Since we support many different organizations in virtually every market (more...)

Creating Custom Listening Connectors using Integration Broker SDK

One of my customers recently had the need of allowing a third party web application to attach files into PeopleSoft. After trying a number of different approaches (the integration had to be done at the web application client level, which significantly reduces the options to manipulate the request to PeopleSoft before sending it, particularly when dealing with old web browsers), I gave up and came to the conclusion that I needed a custom listening connector (more...)

Server refused public-key signature despite accepting key!

A new SFTP connection was not working, even though everything looked fine:

1. Permissions were correct on directories:
chmod go-w $HOME/
chmod 700 $HOME/.ssh
chmod 600 $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys
chmod 600 $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa
chmod 644 $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
chmod 644 $HOME/.ssh/known_hosts

2. Keys were correctly placed

However, it still asked for password, whenever SFTP connection was done:

Using username "sftpuser".
Authenticating with public key "rsa-key-20150214"
Server refused public-key signature despite accepting key!
Using keyboard-interactive (more...)

Oracle BPEL & BPM 12c Set Flow Instance Title

In this article I describe how to set the instance title for a composite in Oracle BPEL or BPM 12c.

Sometimes little, annoying things that are fixed with a new release can give great joy. With 11g you could set the composite instance title using the (advanced) XPath function setCompositeInstanceTitle(). This helps to find or identify instances in Enterprise Manager. However, for high volume composites you may want to configure in-memory-optimization as well by adding (more...)

ODTUG KScope15: Sunday Symposium

Sunday symposium took of at 8:30. Unfortunately i had to skip the first two session due to some work That had to be done first. The first session I really got to attend was Brian Fry's session on Oracles Developer Cloud Service. JDeveloper, Eclipse or Netbeans was the way you would work with Oracle Developer Cloud. Now there is a new feature (not publicly available) that is a browser based IDE.
