#Javaland 2017 wrap up

Yes – I did it again and attend Javaland conference in Phantasialand Brühl.

It was not easy this year to concentrate on the sessions because of the hottest march of the last 100 years. But the quality of the sessions beats the weather. Maybe again my invest in reading the abstracts and filter the sessions before the conference has payed off.

Oracle E-Business Suite Mobile and Web Services Security Explained – Starting with URL Firewall

This is the sixth posting in a blog series summarizing the new Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 Mobile and web services functionality and recommendations for securing them.

How are web services secured in Oracle 12.2? To start at the beginning, the “front door” of the Oracle E-Business Suite is its web server, the Apache server deployed within the WebLogic server that is installed with release 12.2. To secure an Apache web server largely (more...)

Exadata Upgrade to 12.2.0.1 – The Missing Step

I decided this week to be a little brave and upgrade one of the Enkitec Exadata racks to 12.2.0.1.  I installed the 12.2.1.0.0 Exadata image a few weeks ago, and have been waiting for a chance to upgrade clusterware to 12.2.  Thankfully, Oracle provides a very good note for this, but I did hit one large snag that should be documented.

The process for upgrading GI to 12.2 (more...)

On Measuring Apache Spark Workload Metrics for Performance Troubleshooting

Topic: This post is about measuring Apache Spark workload metrics for performance investigations. In particular you can find the description of some practical techniques and a simple tool that can help you with Spark workload metrics collection and performance analysis. The post is released with accompanying code on GitHub: sparkMeasure

Introduction to Spark performance instrumentation

From recent experience I find that scalability and performance are some of the key motivating factors that drive people (more...)

Oracle BPM: Time for Time Out (2)

In a previous blog posting I discussed a solution to re-initiate a scope in BPMN that is supposed to time out after some time. In this posting I discuss how that solution inspires a couple of other use cases where a time out has to be re-initiated by calling an operation on the process.

In the following process model there are three flow, for three different use cases to re-initiate the time-out of:

  1. A process (more...)

Frequent APEX questions

I've put a call out on the OTN APEX forum asking for suggestions from the community on what they think are frequent APEX questions, be it within the forum or elsewhere.

In part, I'm chasing ideas for content in future presentations, or blog posts. I welcome others to do the same. I think if we share our perception of common questions, better resources will come.

So please, feel free to contribute in any way, shape, (more...)

Make Radio Group look like UT Buttons

It's pretty easy to convert links in APEX reports to use the Universal Theme button look & feel, as I described here

http://www.grassroots-oracle.com/2015/12/tutorial-include-action-button-in-report.html

We can apply the same technique to radio groups, but it requires a little more work than just adding some classes, but nothing like jQuery mobile radio fiddles.

It took me a few goes to get the correct string in the correct APEX attribute to make the individual buttons (more...)

Oracle RAC 12.1 – lsnodes exited with code 9

I was trying to do a 2 node RAC setup on Solaris 11.3 where Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.3 was already configured. Installed was running but the Cluster Node Information screen was appearing like this

Customize your Interactive Report with CSS

A lot of you are using jQuery to customize visual parts of an APEX application. I probably to often do so myself but there is a much more elegant way:   CSS

Nowadays you are able to add different kind of rules into your CSS styles. In this example I will show you how to get into the topic by changing an Interactive Report (IR). In my example I want to change the typical group by (more...)

Good old BIN_TO_NUM to check the overall status

A good while ago Chris Saxon, member of the AskTom answer team, asked on twitter which datatype you use when defining tables when you need a Boolean-representation. As you might know there is no Boolean datatype in SQL.
A lot of discussion followed which I'm not going to repeat.
Usually I use a VARCHAR2(1) with a check constraint for Y and N, but for a recent requirement I decided to use a NUMBER instead.

Oracle Linux Vagrant boxes

I use Vagrant a lot. It is an awesome tool when it comes to quickly spin up a local VM for some testing. All my boxes are stored on Hashicorp’s Atlas. Atlas provides a lot more functionality than just being a box repository, but I only use it for just that. I try to create one […]

Oracle Weblogic: Tackling Class Loading Issues for SOA Infra

This blog article discusses how to address class loading issues with the Oracle SOA Infra. It's prime "raison d'etre" being a memory dump of something I don't do often, but may spend significant time in finding out how to do it again.

Some time ago I lost valuable time because some library being deployed twice, once in the wrong place ([SOA_HOME]/lib folder) and once in the right place ([SOA_HOME]/soa/modules/oracle.soa.ext_11.1.1). In this (more...)
