Announcement: Oracle Linux 6.4 available

On February 28th the fourth update release of Oracle Linux 6 was announced.

With Oracle Linux 6.4 two kernels are supported:

  1. Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 (kernel-uek-2.6.39-400.17.1.el6uek)
  2. Red Hat Compatible Kernel (kernel-2.6.32-358.el6)

By default, both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel for the specific architecture (i386 or x86_64) are installed and the system boots the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.

Beside that improvements have been made around Xen and new features with the Red Hat Compatible Kernel have been added.

Announcement: Oracle Linux Pre-Installed Option on Sun x86 Systems

On Friday 9th of March Oracle announced that the following Oracle Sun x86 systems and Netra x86 systems can now be ordered with Oracle Linux pre-installed. If your customers select this option, it will save them significant installation time and effort.  Also, this will ensure that the operating system image has all of the latest updates and is compatible with the Oracle Sun x86 system or the Netra x86 system and its  installed hardware options.

On Tuesday, 5th of March Oracle announced the general availability of Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 that provides up to twice the performance and supports over four times the storage as compared to the original Oracle Database Appliance.
