BPM 11g Timeout Heuristics by Niall Commiskey

Here are some basic heuristics to defensively deal with timeouts in your BPM processes.
The basic rule is - follow the hierarchy
JTA Timeout > BPM EJB Transaction Timeout > resource timeout
We can look at this as referring to the 3 different technical levels involved -

JTA Timeout - set at weblogic engine, this is the Java Transaction timeout. You want to avoid this ever happening. It can be set at weblogic domain level (more...)

Getting Started with Coherence*Web in WebLogic Server 12.1.2 by Tim Middleton

Coherence*Web is a great feature which allows you to store your HTTP sessions in a Coherence Cluster. Doing this allows your to de-couple the HTTP sessions from your JVM’s that are running your web apps, (which can free up JVM memory) and take advantage of the RASP (Reliability, Availability, Scalability and Performance) capabilities of Coherence for storage.

With this separation you can also more easily scale and manage and your HTTP session tier as well (more...)

Implementing deadline functionality with Oracle Adaptive Case Management by Léon Smiers

Oracle released Adaptive Case Management (ACM) in 2013 as part of the BPM stack. One of the functionality we needed in a project recently, was the handling of deadlines in the context of a case. There is (currently) no out-of-the-box solution to, for example, escalate or reassign a case when a specific deadline has expired. In this blog we describe how this functionality can be created with the out-of-the-box functionality of Oracle Case Management.

Environment Variable Tip when using OHS 12.1.2 by Simon Haslam

OHS in co-located WebLogic configurationHere's a silly little issue I hit this afternoon - mostly a case of "administrator error" but a time waster nevertheless.
To recap, there was a big change to Web Tier administration in 12.1.2 in that OHS is controlled with what's now called the "WebLogic Management Framework" - in short this means OHS instance configuration is handled via WLST and lifecycle (start/stop etc) by Node Manager (i.e. OPMN has gone). You have (more...)

Elastic PaaS with WebLogic and OpenStack, part I By Jernej Kaše

In my previous blog I described the steps to get OpenStack on Solaris up and running. Now we'll explore how WebLogic and OpenStack can work together to deliver truly elastic Middleware Platform as a Service.
Middleware / Platform as a Service goals
First, let's define what PaaS should be : PaaS offerings facilitate the deployment of applications without the complexity of managing the underlying hardware and software and provisioning hosting capabilities.

Getting the most out of WLDF Part 3: Notifications by C2B2

his blog directly follows on from part 2 on watches, so if you haven’t already read that then you should probably go and do that now. You can still create notifications without having any watches configured; you just won’t receive anything on them. In the last post, I had created two watches, one Server Log watch and one Collected Metrics watch. In this post, I will create notifications to work with these watches.
